No Maternity Leaves for the Adhoc teachers in DU

Delhi High Court Seeks response from the Delhi University on the allegation put by the female faculty for not giving the maternity leave to its adhoc professor.


A female Professor from Aurbindo College has filed a petition under which she claims that she was entitled for six months leave as per the Maternity Benefit Act but DU didn't grant the leave as was not the permanent employee. She also said that Supreme court has said that Maternity Benefits are available to all irrespective of type of employment whether it is permanent or Contractual.

Justice Suresh Kait in an oral observation said that according to the SC and Act, the lady was entitled for the leave. Judge instruct the DU's lawyer to take provide their stand.

Since women has sent various request since January 4 for seeking the leaves for maternity as her delivery date was February 22. However while awaiting for response she gave birth to her baby on February 3 and since then was on leave without pay.

Now next hearing of High Court will be April 10.
