Najma Akhtar appointed as First Female Vice Chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia

Jamia Millia Islamia has appointed Najma Akhtar as a vice chancellor of the varsity. She will be the first ever women to hold up the position in university's 100 years of existence. She was approved by the President of India, Ram Nath Kovind.

She replaced Talat Ahmad after his resignation from the post last year. The HRD ministry has sent the three names to President for choosing one among them. The other two names includes Furqan Qamar, Secretary General of Association of India Universities and S.M. Ishtiaque, a professor at IIT Delhi.
